Contemporary Craft Gallery in Adelaide

Located on Kaurna Country within the city's cultural precinct, it functions as both a working space and public exhibition venue, open from 10am to 5pm daily. The gallery has become a major player in South Australia's design, craft, and contemporary art scene, backed by Arts South Australia and the Australian Government's Creative Australia program.

JamFactory also runs a second space at Seppeltsfield in the Barossa wine region, where studios, galleries, and shops operate from 11am to 5pm each day. Having two locations means the organisation can reach both city dwellers and regional communities, making contemporary craft and design accessible across South Australia.

Contemporary and Abstract Design Across Multiple Mediums

JamFactory specialises in contemporary and abstract design across a range of mediums. You'll find handcrafted pieces in ceramics and glass, along with jewellery and custom furniture that blur the line between fine art and everyday objects. Their online shop pulls together collections from local artists and designers, with stuff available both as exhibition pieces and ready to take home.

The organisation also produces jam, a line of Australian-designed and made furniture, lighting, and objects that backs local creative talent. By focusing on contemporary and abstract work, JamFactory carves out a proper space for people after thoughtfully designed objects that actually make you reconsider what craft can be.

Current and Upcoming Exhibitions

JamFactory's got quite a bit on at the moment. The FUSE Glass Prize is running until 5 July 2026 at the Adelaide space, focusing on contemporary glass work. There's also 'Convivencia: The Archaeology of Identity' by Avital Sheffer, a site-specific piece exploring cultural identity and belonging. Over at the Barossa gallery, 'Game On' is up until 28 June 2026, and then there's 'this body, echoes' by Nadège Desgenètez as part of the FUSE Glass Artist Residency Exhibition at Carrick Hill. That last one shows how the organisation works with other venues to support artists.

Beyond the main galleries, JamFactory runs an 'On Tour' program and keeps a searchable archive of past exhibitions so work gets out to audiences across South Australia. They also host Wednesday Talks, a regular discussion series on contemporary art and design. It's the kind of thing that keeps the organisation fairly active in the broader cultural scene.

Creative Learning and Community Programs

JamFactory does a lot more than hang art on walls. They run short courses, an Associate Program for artists just getting started, and opportunities for people to work overseas. You can hire their studios if you're an artist or creative type working in Adelaide. It's become a proper hub for the local creative scene, partly because it functions as both a place to see contemporary craft and a working space where artists can actually build their practice.

The gallery takes ethics and cultural respect seriously. They're a Dealer Member of the Indigenous Art Code, which means they operate transparently and fairly with artists, especially Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander practitioners. JamFactory acknowledges the Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains and their ongoing connection to the land and communities around here. Cultural responsibility sits at the centre of how they operate and the work they show. JamFactory, Adelaide, SA 5000.

Visit, Shop, and Support JamFactory

JamFactory gives you plenty of reasons to drop by. You can browse the shop for ceramics, glass, jewellery, and design pieces, or order online if you can't make it in person. Want to go deeper? They've got membership options, the Medici Collective if you're keen to back emerging artists, and donations. All of it keeps local makers going and helps keep Adelaide's craft scene alive.

Ring the Adelaide shop on (08) 8414 7225 or head office on (08) 8410 0727 Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. The Barossa spot is through Seppeltsfield on (08) 8562 8149. JamFactory, based in Adelaide SA 5000, opens its doors to collectors, artists, visitors, and anyone who cares about Australian craft.
