About Creative Room Art Space
Creative Room Art Space in West End, Brisbane
Creative Room Art Space is an art gallery and creative studio in West End, one of Brisbane's most culturally active neighbourhoods. The space shows work across contemporary and classical genres, giving visitors a proper chance to engage with art. It functions as both a public exhibition area and a working creative hub, drawing on the artistic energy across Queensland's growing art scene. Artists, collectors, and art enthusiasts can find professionally presented work here in a neighbourhood that's known for independent artists and serious creative practice.
The space acknowledges its location on the land of the Turrbal and Jagera people, and pays respect to Elders past, present, and emerging, recognising their continuing connection to land and culture. This shapes Creative Room's identity as a place for genuine encounters with contemporary art, creative practice, and real dialogue within Brisbane's arts community.
Diverse Artistic Mediums and Visual Languages
The gallery works with artists using painting, drawing, printmaking, textiles, and experimental materials. You might find intimate botanical studies next to bold abstract pieces or intricate figurative work. It's a space where artists work in different visual styles and the gallery gives them room to do it.
The gallery supports both established and emerging artists with a mix of solo and group exhibitions. This approach lets working artists develop their practice with professional support while giving audiences a chance to discover new voices in contemporary art.
Current and Upcoming Exhibitions
Creative Room cycles through its shows at a measured pace. Botanical Meditation runs from 15 May to 10 June 2026 and features new paintings by Oxana Arefin. Her work focuses on botanical forms rendered through colour and contemplative technique, asking visitors to take their time looking closely at each piece. There's a real sense of stillness in these paintings that encourages quiet attention to the natural world. Straight after that, Between the Threads opens on 12 June 2026 and continues through 8 July, bringing together eight textile artists from Australia and overseas. The show explores what fibre, fabric, and material can do as storytelling tools. Weaving, stitching, soft sculpture, and experimental approaches all feature, with work touching on identity, memory, and transformation.
Creative Room runs more than just exhibitions. The gallery puts on guided art experiences, artist talks, and opening events to get people talking with the artists behind the work. They're also after exhibition proposals for 2027 from early-career and mid-career artists working across any medium. Practising artists can propose workshops and classes in drawing, painting, printmaking, textile, and other disciplines too.
A Studio and Teaching Community
Creative Room works as both a public gallery and an active studio, with a strong teaching side. The space runs regular workshops and classes taught by practising artists, scheduling them across weekdays and weekends to suit different people. What makes it different is that visitors can see contemporary work one moment and then get their hands dirty learning something themselves the next. The teaching program takes the same careful, serious approach you'll find in the exhibitions, so there's a real consistency to how the whole place operates.
Getting There and Staying in the Loop
Creative Room is in West End, right in the thick of Brisbane's inner-west art scene, so it's easy to visit if you're checking out what's on. They're keen to hear from people. Sign up for their mailing list too if you want to know when new shows are opening, what events are coming up, artist updates, and calls for submissions.
