About Q Gallery

Homepage of Q Gallery

A Creative Hub in Ainslie's Art Community

Ainslie has some of Canberra's best art spaces, and Q Gallery sits right there in the middle of it. The gallery operates at 13A Edgar Street, offering a place where artists and collectors can work and connect without facing ridiculous costs. Local artists get a genuine shot at showing their work to people who actually care about it. Q Gallery acknowledges the Ngunnawal People as the traditional custodians of the land, recognising that this is and always was Aboriginal land.

{"text":"The space does more than just put art on walls. It's built around bringing people together, helping artists develop their practice, and keeping the door open for creative work to happen. Collectors, artists, and anyone curious about what's happening in Canberra's contemporary visual art scene will find a real artistic community in Q Gallery at Ainslie.

Diverse Contemporary and Traditional Artistic Voices

Q Gallery stocks a pretty good range of work. You'll see contemporary pieces, abstract stuff, figurative work, and expressionist painting mixed in with realism and botanical art that's beautifully done. They're genuinely committed to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, which means First Nations artists get real visibility in the local art community. Every exhibition brings different mediums, styles, and cultural traditions together, so there's usually something new to discover.

Check out their recent shows. They ran a springtime exhibition that looked at flowers in art, blending both representational and abstract approaches to the subject. Solo exhibitions like Catherine Ann's give you the chance to spend time with a single artist's work. The gallery keeps its artist application process running continuously, so anyone working in these traditions can apply. That keeps the space fresh with emerging voices.

Learning and Creative Participation Year-Round

Q Gallery runs workshops, short courses, and drop-in sessions throughout the year. If you're just getting started, there's the Autumn Colours Watercolour Short Course. For those wanting to keep their practice going, the 10 Ways to Make More Art workshop series covers art journaling and how to keep creating when life gets in the way. The classes cater to everyone from complete beginners to experienced artists keen to try something fresh.

Creative Play sessions run Tuesday and Thursday mornings, offering a relaxed space to make work and experiment with new ideas. What makes Q Gallery different is how it combines exhibitions, learning, and hands-on creative activity.

What Sets Q Gallery Apart

Q Gallery keeps its costs low and doors open for local artists to show work, which matters when the art world keeps chasing money. Emerging and established artists both get a real shot here, the kind of space that's hard to come by. That commitment shows in how the place feels and how people talk about the art once they're inside.

Running exhibitions, classes, and community events from one small venue in Ainslie, Q Gallery does something a bit different for inner Canberra. The focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art sits alongside wellness and creative programming, which brings artists together in a way you don't see much anymore. People actually bump into each other and swap ideas.

Q Gallery opens Wednesday to Friday, 2:30 to 6:00 pm, Saturday 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, and by appointment Sunday to Tuesday.
